About Me | Rebecca Starr, MD

Dr. Rebecca Starr founded Starr Geriatrics because she believes that every individual deserves, and can achieve, a sense of purpose and well-being regardless of age or cognitive and functional limitations. She is inspired by people like Dr. Peter Attia who writes about “rethinking medicine to live better longer”, and Dan Buetter who has traveled the world learning the secrets of the “Blue Zone” areas where people’s longevity goes hand-in-hand with their ability to live healthy, vibrant and meaningful lives. Her mission is to use her knowledge, passion and expertise to allow her patients to live the most fulfilling life possible.

She attended medical school at the State University of New York - Downstate and completed her internal medicine residency and geriatrics fellowship through Brown University at Rhode Island Hospital. She is “triple boarded” - board certified to practice internal medicine, geriatric medicine and palliative care medicine.

Dr. Starr has held multiple positions in clinical, academic and administrative leadership, including five years as Medical Director of the Cooley Dickinson Hospital Geriatrics Department, two years as Medical Director of Medicare Advantage at Health New England in Springfield; Medical Director of the ACE (Acute Care for Elders) protocol pilot at Baystate Medical Center; and Medical Director of PACE (Program for All-Inclusive Care of the Elderly) for Elder Service Plan in Cambridge, Mass. She is the recipient of several awards, grants, scholarships and fellowships from SUNY-Downstate; Harvard Medical School; The Samuels Foundation/American Federation for Aging Research; Tufts University Medical School; Baystate Medical Center; and the American Geriatrics Society.

She has also pioneered clinical innovations and quality improvement projects such as the Pioneer Valley Memory Care Initiative, a program to support older adults living with memory loss in our community and their caregivers; helped spearhead attainment of the Geriatric Emergency Department Accreditation of the Cooley Dickinson Hospital (first of the hospitals within MGB system); and contributed to Baystate Hospital’s efforts in fall prevention for low-income, at risk elders.

Dr. Starr lives in the Pioneer Valley with her husband, two teenage children (gulp!), and a menagerie of pets. She is a former chef who still loves cooking and exploring all the farm to table options the Valley has to offer. Dr. Starr is also an avid gardener with a particular fondness for dahlias and enjoys taking long walks with her family and friends.
